La natura incontaminata, la bellezza dei luoghi, la purezza e l'abbondanza delle acque, contribuirono alla nascita di un rapporto viscerale ed indissolubile tra la conca reatina e San Francesco d'Assisi che, proprio in uno dei quattro santuari reatini da lui fondati, compose il Cantico delle Creature.
Terra di spiritualità, arte e natura, la provincia di Rieti conserva pressoché innate tutte le sue caratteristiche, vantando un profondo legame con diversi elementi naturali strettamente connessi al tema fondamentale di EXPO 2015 "Nutrire il Pianeta, Energia per la Vita".
Il progetto, partendo dal patrimonio ambientale, culturale ed enogastronomico della Provincia di Rieti, promuove le eccellenze declinando le attività e l'offerta informativa e divulgativa su 5 temi principali articolati nei cinque mesi che vanno da giugno ad ottobre: il grano, l'acqua, l'olio, lo zucchero, il sale, che colpiscono facilmente l'immaginario collettivo e costituiscono un fil rouge intorno al quale si raccolgono tutti gli eventi in programmazione.
