Roti mewakili strata sosial masyarakat pada saat itu, semakin gelap warna roti yang di konsumsi semakin rendah status sosialnya. Hal ini disebabkan tepung yang berwarna putih sebagai bahan utama pembuatan roti mempunyai harga yang sangat mahal, sehingga hanya masyarakat dengan status sosial tertentu yang mampu membelinya.
