Embora este tanager seja amplamente distribuído dentro da sua gama da Mata Atlântica, este habitat é ameaçado pelo desmatamento e apenas cerca de oito por cento do habitat original permanece. Tanagers de cabeça verde compartilham a Mata Atlântica com o Bristlefront de Stresemann, em risco de ameaça criativa, ameaçou Cotinga Banded e Tanager brasileiro mais comum.
