In the older days of Rajas and Maharajas, Shalwar Kameez was traditional and cultural wear for most of the noble and elite class in the Indian subcontinent. 1. In the twelfth century A.D., Shalwar Kameez became a popular dress for the nobles in the Iranian era. The word shalwar originated from Persian word salvar meaning pants. The Mogul emperors brought this trend into the subcontinent of India. From here, it spread to all parts of Indo Pak subcontinent to other parts of the world. The traditional dress is changed into designer or contemporary formal and informal wear. Yet it has never lost its popularity and fame. The upcoming fashion is a mixture of Eastern and Western style that is becoming quite popular among the celebrities and young boys and girls.

2. The dress regained its fame and popularity when the noble leaders switched from pants or trousers to Shalwar Kameez. With the freedom of India and separation of Indo Pakistan, the national leaders of Pakistan preferred wearing Shalwar Kameez to represent them at the international platform. It then was announced as the national dress of Pakistan. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, wore shalwar with sheerwani at numerous occasions. Kameez is worn as an under shirt with sheerwani which is a sort of long coat for men. During that era, Jinnah cap also became popular fashion accessory for men.
