Thiago Silva, born September 22, 1984 in Rio de Janeiro, is a Brazilian international footballer who plays in Ligue 1 as a central defender at Chelseas. He is also its captain.
Thiago Silva starts playing football in the streets of Rio de Janeiro, before being spotted by the Fluminense club. After a short period spent in Rio, he continued his training in Brazil, before blossoming at the top level at Esporte Clube Juventude. He then joined Europe and Futebol Clube do Porto in 2004 but found himself running out of playing time. Then loaned to FK Dynamo Moscow. Silva finds the top level with Fluminense, and AC Milan in 2009, at 25 years old.
Become one of the most famous defenders in the world, he won the Italian championship in 2011, before signing in 2012 with Paris Saint-Germain, where he notably won the French championship in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018. His transfer fee, estimated at 42 million euros, then made him the eighth most expensive defender in football history.
Thiago Silva made his Brazilian national debut after participating in the 2008 Olympic Games. In this competition, he won a bronze medal with the Brazilian Olympic team. Thiago Silva then took part in the 2010 World Cup as well as the 2011 Copa América, before winning a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games. Become captain, he won the Confederations Cup in 2013 and presented himself to the Cup 2014 World Cup. Recently, Thiago Silva participated in the 2018 World Cup.
