Melanoma does not necessarily have a dark color. Sometimes malignant pigment cells no longer form pigments. Such melanomas are called "amelanotics". Since they do not have the usual characteristics, they tend to mistake them for benign lesions.

When a person consults his or her doctor because he / she has one or more of the symptoms described above and there is a suspicion of skin cancer, the patient is immediately referred to a specialist, usually a dermatologist, sometimes a surgeon.
