Snowdrop or Galanthus ( lat. Galánthus ) genus of perennial herbs of the family Amaryllidaceae. It includes 18 species and two hybrids of natural origin. There are 12 species on the territory of the former USSR.

The scientific name of the plant is formed from the Latinized Greek words γάλα ( gála ) and ἄνθΠς ( ánthos ) which can be understood as a milk flower given by the color of flowers. The color of the leaves varies from light green with a yellow shade ( Galanthus woronowii ) to dark green ( Galanthus alpinus ). They can be shiny matte with a greasy shine or with a wax coating. The tip is acute or rounded with a hood or flat. The base of the leaf is wide or narrowed turning into petiole. The surface of the sheet is smooth or folded or keeled from the underside. The leaves are located in the surface beam.
