If you're a native English speaker trying to learn Mandarin the most important first step is to correctly read Pinyin. This app will pick a combination of an inital and a matching final and display a word for you you to say out loud.

Think you've got it right? Tap the speaker icon to hear the same word spoken by a native speaker to verify. You can tap the initial or the final to get a pronunciation hint for each component if you need a reminder.

You can change the tones for each word to try different tone/word combinations to see how the pronunciation changes.
