Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, better known by his stage name The Weeknd (Scarborough, Canada, February 16, 1990), is a Canadian singer, songwriter and producer. At the end of 2010, Tesfaye anonymously uploaded several songs to YouTube under the name "The Weeknd". He released three mixtapes of nine tracks throughout 2011: House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence, which were highly acclaimed. The following year, he released his compilation album titled "Trilogy" with thirty tracks consisting of remastered versions of his mixtape material and three additional songs. It was put on the market by the musical label Republic Records and XO. In 2013, he released his debut album Kiss Land, which was recognized by the singles "Kiss Land" and "Live For".

Their second studio album, Beauty Behind The Madness, which became their first album to reach number one on the Billboard 200 chart, including the "top five" on various charts with their single "Earned It" and produced the number one singles "The Hills" and Can not Feel My Face. The songs have simultaneously reached the top three places on the Billboard Hot R & B Songs list, becoming the only artist of 2015 to do so. The Weeknd has received praise from several music publications, including Pitchfork, MTV, BET, Rolling Stone, XXL and The Source.
