Tips for Mutant Fridge Mayhem Gumball

Mutant Fridge Mayhem has a pretty simple concept. Expired jelly has turned all the food in the fridge rancid, mutating it from harmless into monstrous. To combat these expired fruits and veggies, three kids team up to bring order back to the refrigerator. This game takes place in the Gumball universe, featuring characters from the Cartoon Network show. While fans will enjoy seeing Gumball, Darwin, and Anais fighting villainous foodstuffs, gamers unfamiliar with Gumball’s colorful cast will likely find the game equally entertaining.

Mutant Fridge Mayhem plays and looks like a classic arcade action game. Each level takes place in a relatively small area, and your character can move to approach baddies or collect power-ups. There is no jump button in this game, so the controls are very simple. Your left thumb controls your movement, and your right thumb controls your attacks. Your characters don’t have many options when it comes to attack, so you don’t need to worry about onscreen buttons.

You have three characters to choose from, each slightly different from the others. The main character, Gumball, is the standard attacker. Darwin has the ability to shoot projectiles from a distance, and Anais is heavy on attack but light on defense. Each character can be upgraded between levels. You can increase their basic attack or health points, or choose to unlock their special attacks.

You can swap out characters during levels by using the character wheel on the top right of the screen. To reach the end of the game, you’ll need to level all three up and learn how to use their unique talents. Each level plays very similar to the arcade game, where enemies will wander into your zone and you need to defeat them before moving on. Enemies increase in difficulty and abilities over time, so you’ll need to be able to handle multiple attacks at once.

Thankfully, there are power-ups and weapons scattered throughout each level. You will usually find a stationary object, like a garbage can, in the level that you can destroy. Inside is often something of value, like coins to be used for levelling up or a weapon. Weapons can increase your attacks temporarily and are handy against bosses.

This game gets major points for its sense of humor. You would expect a game from Cartoon Network to have some funny in it, and this game doesn’t disappoint. From the concept to the characters, Mutant Fridge Mayhem is a silly game that keeps you smiling.

The game is fairly repetitive, however. Other than new mutant foods to fight, there is very little variety in the gameplay. The challenge continues to increase, and a three-star system for each level certainly helps, but the basics of the game require you to tap your right thumb against your screen non-stop.

Mutant Fridge Mayhem isn’t much more than a basic action game with some arcade-inspired mechanics - but it’s solid. The graphics look great, and the open cinematic scene is well animated. The characters and fighting are fun, but we’d like to see a little more variety to spice it up.
