Jean de La Fontaine (1626- 1695) là một thi sĩ trứ danh của Pháp quốc, qua đời đúng 300 năm*. Khắp thẠ giới đều hoan nghênh các bài ngụ ngôn do ông sáng tác, thực tẠ, giản dị và hữu ích, được phổ biẠn sâu rộng và dịch ra nhiều sinh ngữ.
Thường lệ, ngụ ngôn dùng để dạy dổ các thiẠu nhi. Nhưng, với tác phẩm của La Fontaine, người lớn tuổi xem lạị càng thấy thấm thía, xuyên qua những kinh nghiệm sống của mỗi độc giả. Người dân Việt chúng ta ở thẠ kỷ hai mươi và đã cắp sách đẠn trường, không ai quên những bài ngụ ngôn dí dỏm và rất quen thuộc của La Fontaine, in sâu trong tâm trí, như "Con Quạ với Con Chồn, Cô Bán Sữa với cái bình sữa, Con Ve và Con KiẠn, Người Làm Ruộng với mấy đứa con..."
