ZapTorch APPLICATION description
Click Twice, Make Light.
This app uses Accessibility services.
ZapTorch uses an Accessibility service to help users with disabilities easily toggle the flashlight functionality on their Android devices. It does so by monitoring when the user double-presses the Volume Down button on their device.
ZapTorch is a very simple application that was born out of frustration. In a dark room, the developer found it too tedious to swipe and flick and tap in order to access the flashlight. ZapTorch seeks to solve this annoyance by making the flashlight instantly accessible from anywhere with two simple presses on the Volume Down key.
An Accessibility service is required for ZapTorch to know when you double press the Volume Down key. The service only listens for that keypress, it monitors nothing else about you. Double pressing the volume down key in a short burst will toggle the device flashlight, turning it on or off as needed, helping you instantly illuminate dark rooms or hard to see spaces.
Please note that due to some current limitations, activating the flashlight will only work when the screen is already on.
ZapTorch is proud to be free and 100% open source. ZapTorch has zero tracking or analytics collecting code, and fully supports both Light and Dark theme.
ZapTorch is developed in the Open on GitHub at: https://github.com/pyamsoft/zaptorch. If you know a few things about Android programming and are wanting to help out with development you can do so by creating issue tickets to squash bugs, and propose feature requests for future inclusion.
