Zlatan Ibrahimović est né le 3 octobre 1981 à Rosengard en périphérie de la ville suédoise de Malmö. Il est d'origine de Bosnie-Herzégovine par son père et de Croatie par sa mère.

Il débute le football dans les équipes de jeunes du Malmö BI et FC Balkan avant d'intégrer le centre de formation du Malmoë FF, où il signe son premier contrat professionnel. Sa carrière est lancée et va atteindre les sommets de l'Europe.

Attaquant prolifique en nombre de buts, il joue deux saisons à Malmö FF (1999-2001), puis rejoint successivement l' Ajax d'Amsterdam (2001-2004), la Juventus Turin (2004-2006), l'Inter Milan (2006-2009), le FC Barcelone (2009-2010), le Milan AC (2010-2012).

Il signe au Paris-Saint-Germain à l'été 2012 et foule le Parc des Princes, dans le cadre de la prestigieuse politique de recrutement des propriétaires du club, Qatar Sports Investments.
