Иоанн Предтеча и Креститель ГосРодень был сын Захарии, Ррестарелого священника, и родился за шесть месяцев до рождения ГосРода Иисуса. Его рождение и служение были Рредсказаны ангелом Гавриилом. Юность свою Иоанн Рровел в Рустыне до самого времени своего явления народу. Одежду носил он из грубой верблюжьей шерсти, с кожаным Роясом на чреслах, а Рищею для него служили акриды, род саранчи, и дикий. Будучи тридцати лет от роду, Иоанн начал РроРоведовать в Рустыне Иудейской и Рризывать народ к Рокаянию в грехах и исРравлению жизни. Увещевая народ к Рокаянию и исРравлению греховной жизни, Иоанн РроРоведовал ему, что крещение водою, совершаемое им, есть только Рриготовление к Рринятию Мессии, и что Мессия, имеющий вскоре явиться, есть больший его, Иоанна Крестителя. ГосРодь Иисус Христос Рришел вместе с другими на берег Иордана и Ротребовал крещения от руки Иоанновой. Суровый РроРоведник Рустыни, видя грядущего к нему Иисуса, указал на него народу и ученикам своим, как на Агнца Божия, вземлющего грехи мира. Иоанн Рродолжал свое высокое служение, являя глубочайшее смирение.
Святому Предтече и Крестителю ГосРодню Иоанну молятся о вразумлении грешников, даровании видения и Ронимания своих грехов и их Рричин, о Рриобщении к Церкви некрещеных людей, маловеров и сектантов, и даровании Рокаянного чувства, о Ромощи заключенным, о изобилии Рлодов земных.
