La devoción en el siglo XVI
Alegoría de la declaración pontifica de Benedicto XIV el 24 de abril de 1754 del patronato Guadalupano sobre la Nueva España, anónimo novohispano, siglo XVIII.
Si bien no existe en el corpus epistolar de Zumárraga ninguna mención ni alusión al milagro guadalupano, las narraciones hechas en el siglo XVII15 indican que el obispo ordenó llevar la imagen a la Catedral de México. La imagen habría sido trasladada al cerro del Tepeyac -o Tepeyacac como aún era conocido- después en una ceremonia fastuosa, presidida por el propio Zumárraga, Juan Diego y el presidente de la Segunda Audiencia, Sebastián Ramírez de Fuenleal.
Es en el contexto de dicha procesión en que se cree ocurriría el primer milagro de la virgen, cuando un aborigen que participaba en una representación teatral de una batalla como parte de los fastos, fue herido con una flecha verdadera. Al ser llevado ante la virgen, la herida habría sanado milagrosamente. Devotion in the sixteenth century

While not exist in the epistolary corpus of Zumarraga no mention or allusion to guadalupano miracle narratives made in the XVII15 century indicate that the bishop ordered to take the image to the Cathedral of Mexico. The picture would have been moved to the hill of Tepeyac, or Tepeyacac as was known- even after a lavish ceremony, presided over by Zumarraga himself, Juan Diego and president of the Second Audiencia, Sebastián Fuenleal.
It is in the context of that procession which is believed to occur the first miracle of the virgin, when an aborigine who participated in a theater of battle as part of the pageantry, was wounded with a real arrow. To be brought before the virgin, the wound had healed miraculously.
