Descubrimiento de sus restos mortales
Filomena, una joven mártir de la Iglesia primitiva durmió en el olvido de la historia hasta el hallazgo de sus restos mortales el 24 de mayo de 1802. Ocurrió en el día de María Auxiliadora, durante una de las excavaciones que se hacen constantemente en Roma. La encontraron en la Catacumba de Santa Priscilla, en la Vía Salaria.
En una tumba habían tres losas juntas que cerraban la entrada y en ellas había una inscripción que estaba rodeada de símbolos que aludían al martirio y a la virginidad de la persona ahí enterrada. Los símbolos eran: ancla, tres flechas, una palma y una flor.
La inscripción decía: LUMENA PAXTE CUM FI
Se entiende que estas losas pueden haber sido puestas, en el orden incorrecto, debido a la prisa o al poco conocimiento del latín del obrero. Por lo tanto, la inscripción correctamente puesta se leería: PAX TECUM FILUMENA en español: ¡Paz sea contigo Filomena!
Al abrir la tumba descubrieron su esqueleto que era de huesos pequeños y notaron a la vez, que su cuerpo había sido traspasado por flechas. Al examinar los restos los cirujanos atestiguaron la clase de heridas que la joven mártir recibió y los expertos coincidieron en calcular que la niña fue martirizada entre la edad de 12 o 13 años. Discovery of his remains
Philomena, a young martyr of the early Church slept in oblivion of history until the discovery of his remains on 24 May 1802. It happened on the day of Mary Help of Christians during one of the excavations that are constantly being made in Rome. They found in the Catacomb of St. Priscilla on Via Salaria.
In a tomb together they had three slabs that closed the entrance and they had an inscription that was surrounded by symbols alluding to martyrdom and virginity of the person buried there. The symbols were: anchor, three arrows, a palm and a flower.
The inscription read: LUMENA PAXTE CUM FI
It is understood that these slabs may have been placed in the wrong order, due to haste or little knowledge of Latin of the workers. Therefore, registration is set correctly read: PAX TECUM FILUMENA in Spanish: Peace be with you Filomena!
When opening the tomb they found her skeleton was small-boned and noticed at once that her body had been pierced by arrows. By examining the remains surgeons witnessed the kind of wounds received the young martyr and calculate the experts agreed that the girl was martyred between the age of 12 or 13 years.
