هذه الرواية تدور حول شخصية الزين - (الزين) الذي يعيش في قرية سودانية. هو شاب من الدراويش أو من يُطلق عليهم (المبروكين)، ينوي الزواج من (نعمة) ابنة عمه.
عرس الزين، رواية عربية معاصرة، كتبها الروائي السوداني الراحل الطيب صالح عام 1969، وتعتبر كتاباً كلاسيكياً في الأدب العربي. يصوّر الكاتب حياة القرى في شمال السودان المتأثّرة بالتراث الإسلامي والسوداني. زين مغفل غريب الأطوار لكنه محبوب من الجميع على الرغم من منظره المخيف، يعيش حياة بسيطة مليئة بالضحك والفكاهة والجنون. يقع الزين في حب نعمة، وهو أمر فاق توقعات القرويين
وهناك تفاوت بين الشخصيتين حيث القبح سمة الأولى، والجمال سمة الثانية
تحوم فكرة الرواية المحورية ، للوهلة الأولى ، حول الزواج ، زواج الزين ؛ البطل الرئيسي في الرواية ، من ابنة عمه نعمة . علماً أن الزواج كحدث إنساني ، يُعدّ حدثاً عادياً ، مألوفاً وبسيطاً ، يكاد يتكرر يومياً ، الأمر الذي قد يجعل المرء يميل إلى الاعتقاد ، أنه لو بقيت فكرة الرواية ضمن هذا الإطار حصراً ، دون أن تتجاوزه إلى أبعاد ودلالات أخرى سواه ، لكانت فقدت طرافتها وتفردها ! This novel revolves around the figure of Zein - (Zain), who lives in a Sudanese village. It is a young man of dervishes, or the so-called (Alambrukin), intends to marry (blessing), the daughter of his uncle.
